BOSTON (August 30, 2018) – Rasky Partners announced today that former President of the Massachusetts Senate, Therese Murray, will join the firm as a senior advisor following her service to the state. Murray has served as a member of Rasky Partners’ Advisory Board for 2 years.
In her role as strategic advisor, Murray will play a major role in business development and growth opportunities at Rasky Partners. Given her deep experience and relationships in Massachusetts and across the region, she will work closely with the firm’s Public Affairs practice group to continue bolstering its presence across the Commonwealth and New England. Murray will also have a significant opportunity to leverage her background establishing strategic global initiatives and partnerships to expand the firm’s rapidly growing international relations practice.
“We are thrilled to have Therese Murray join us as a senior advisor,” said Larry Rasky, CEO and chairman of Rasky Partners. “Therese’s leadership and experience at the highest levels of the Commonwealth in addition to her work across the globe will serve as an invaluable asset to the firm as we look to continue expanding our presence here in New England and abroad. She has been a dear friend and colleague for many years and knows our firm well, and we could not be happier to welcome her in a more formal capacity now.”
Murray was elected as President of the Massachusetts Senate in 2007 and remained in office until 2015. In addition to being the first woman to serve as Senate President and the 16th woman elected to the chamber, noteworthy accomplishments during her 22-year tenure include enacting major health care reform, the restructuring of the Commonwealth’s transportation system and the passing of the 2010 Economic Development Act. As President of the Senate, Murray prioritized international economic development by connecting businesses and organizations to increased opportunities and partnerships. Prior to becoming Senate President, Murray served on various committees including the Joint Committee on Human Services and Elder Affairs, the Joint Committee on Insurance and was the Chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
Following her departure from the Senate, Murray founded MassIgnite to continue promoting Massachusetts’ emerging economic and technology sectors to international markets. Formally known as Massachusetts International Growth Network for Innovation, Trade and the Economy, the nonprofit organization provides an opportunity for market expansion and international partnerships for the Commonwealth. Her dedication to public service has earned Murray various honorary degrees and recognitions, including the 2014 Tip O’Neill Diaspora Award presented to her by Irish President Michael D. Higgins.
