Overview

The Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians (MassAFP), a well-known state-wide professional association, needed a partner to help position and promote its various legislative priorities at the state level. Specific priorities included telemedicine, increasing workforce development, and defeating scope of practice expansion.

Our work

Our team developed a comprehensive advocacy and lobbying campaign to shape the narratives around MassAFP’s priorities. As part of the campaign, we developed messaging around the scope of practice issue and implemented all facets of a strategic lobbying and communications effort. We also organized the group’s membership to advocate in opposition to the legislation filed, which included attending a State House Lobby Day, providing testimony at hearings and serving as media surrogates.

Results

As a result of our campaign, we successfully protected our client’s’ policy priorities in that the scope of practice legislation has been defeated for the last several legislative sessions in Massachusetts.
