Overview

The Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health is a private, non-profit public health agency that advocates for responsible gaming and gambling practices and provides services for those affected by problem gambling. With the official opening of casinos in the Commonwealth as a result of the 2011 Gambling Expansion Act, the steady advancement of legalized sports wagering, the growth of the Massachusetts State Lottery, and the continued debate around the expansion of online platforms, the Council’s role has increased significantly.

Our work

Our team was brought in to help raise awareness of and advance the Council’s mission through relationship-building with state government and the business community. We worked with the Council to achieve its overall mission by building key relationships within the Legislature and Executive branch and developing advocacy strategies to match each issue.

Results

Ultimately, the Council played an important and influential role in ensuring that the Legislature passed a sports wagering bill with responsible gaming safeguards in place. We are now working to ensure that any final bill includes those same safeguards. Our work with the Council continues today.
